The following questions were answered by Designer Kamil Szelagowski and Programmer Przemyslaw Dabrowski.

Kamil Szelagowski [Designer]: We sincerely hope that some players will find more in our game and that it will not only be a message, but also as an inspiration. We do not want to impose anyone. Our goal is to show that everyone has his own background, his own story and his own characteristics. However, there is always the possibility that complete opposites are trusting each other and help to get out of a difficult situation. We want to talk to overcoming the hatred and the prejudices of people. To show a negative impact of radicalism, which, as the story shows, lead to a place of which it is difficult to return.

Can you talk about how that manifests in the gameplay?

Szelagowski : One of our main objectives was that the game mechanics supported the story we want to tell. For this reason, we have created three main systems to emphasize character differences and differences: fractions, characteristics and relationships.

Shortly after the catastrophe, the protagonists do not know and support their assessments on the fractional affiliation of others. During the game, characteristics of all characters will be discovered, which can be both advantages and vice. These affect both the relationship and the course of dialogues and events in the game.

One of the messages of our game is the need for the dialogue of people with different views. For this reason, we decided that one of the key mechanisms of our game night discussions are at the campfire between the characters. The player can discuss a variety of topics and make decisions. Characters expressing problems that correspond to their conviction increases their morality, but at the same time negatively influence the moral of the entire warehouse and relationships with other interlocutors. The task of the player is to compensate for the statements and balance to avoid disputes and divisions.

How does the dynamic weather and the wildlife affect the gameplay and how does it affect the decisions that the players have to meet?

Szelagowski : The weather is sometimes generated as most in the game systems, sometimes changed and sometimes changed depending on the scenario, events or difficulty of the game. This will have a great influence on the gameplay itself, including an increase in the likelihood of being lost during an expedition to hinder actions, destroy buildings or cover them with snow. In addition, this also affects the characters: increase or decrease the negative status or impair the morality of the characters.

During the game, the player can find many different animals - a part of the Siberian fauna. The hunts themselves are based on an event system in which the characteristics and equipment of the expedition determine the number of potential decisions and influence the success of hunting. In addition, the player can catch smaller animals by trying on the map or trying to catch fish in the nearby river.

What can you tell us about the event system?

The New Reward and Achievement systems in Hearthstone Szelagowski : The event system in our game is based on text native with different decisions that the player can take. Characters participating in the event can have different settings for specific solutions due to their individual characteristics. Depending on the obsessed resources or objects, additional options can be displayed. The events themselves are divided into many categories, eg. Szelagowski : We do not like to talk about the exact time needed to finish the game. A player reads all the dialogues carefully, the other skips them and this can mean a few hours difference. So it's hard to specify. Although the game has a high recovery and completely knowing all the characters of the player, I would say that you will need 14-16 hours.

Do you have any plans for STADIA?

Szelagowski : At this moment we do not think about it.

What do you think as an indie developer about the switch that has developed quickly to a paradise for indie games?

Przemyslaw Dabrowski [Programmer]: Switch offers the portability of mobile games, but with other control schemes compared to the latter, which opens up new possibilities in the design of the game mechanics. We feel like HWCT is a very switch-like game as we have recently seen so many great narrative games on the Nintendo console.

It was confirmed that the PS5 has an SSD. How can you improve the game performance from the point of view of development in the future?

Dabrowski: An SSD offers faster charging times, which generally improves the gaming experience. In addition, it helps in any case when a fast data stream is needed from the hard disk.

The PS5 will have a Zen 2 processor, which represents a big jump over the CPUs of the PS4 and Xbox One. How will you help you with the development of the future in the development of games of the future?

Dabrowski: The Zen 2-CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads is indeed an important and exciting improvement over the recent generation consoles. More available computing power can bring many advantages to the developer - for example in procedural generated and simulated games or physical calculations. The better computing power not only offers a more fluid gaming experience, but also the opportunity to create more realistic and fascinating worlds.

Xbox Series X has GDDR6 memory. How does this increase the memory bandwidth will help you in the future?

Dabrowski: In general, a faster memory bandwidth allows a more uniform rendering and loading of higher resolution textures, e.g. B. in 4 KB. So it can help us to reach the present Holy Grail of Gambling - 4k / 60fps.
