Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate Interview - more is better


The producer and director Tomohiko Sho speaks with Orochi over the improved re-publication of Warriors Orochi 4.

The Musou Hack-and-Slash Action The Wieger Mega-franchise has proven to be timeless, and last year Koei Tecmo delivered more of it with Warriors Orochi 4. But as it is traditional for the series, we will soon receive an expanded new publication of the game, as Omega Force developers will add more content and characters Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate. Before publishing in Japan in December and global publication in February, we recently submitted developers to some of our questions about the game and its new content. You can read our conversation with the producer and director of the game, Tomohiko Sho.

How is the new character you want to add to the game?

First of all, we have thought about how we can show the continuation of history and how deep we penetrate into them. And to do this, Gaia, Hades and Yang Jian were added as necessary characters. The next, which we thought was what characters would delight the players in the West and in Asia, and we decided to add the famous characters Achilles, Jeanne d'Arc and Ryu Hayabusa. ****

With the new action and the new stories as a whole, how many hours new gameplay is Warrieger Orochi 4 Ultimatives add?

Only in terms of history ... Depending on the game style, it is about 15-20 hours. Taking into account the endless mode and the challenge mode, it is 35-40 hours. If the replay capabilities are included, this goes beyond.

Can you talk about infinity mode and what kind of experience can expect players?

The infinity mode focuses more on the gameplay that takes over game and challenge elements that represent the greatest differences to story mode. The players feel comfortable if they master many challenges while improving the characters.

By changing Sacred Treasures, players can have more fun to develop their own style than in the previous game.

How does the opportunity to combine sacred treasures with other characters and the new Musou Switch combination, the fight?

By changing Sacred Treasures, players can have more fun to develop their own style than in the previous game. While the Musou Switch Combo is just as exciting, the change from Sacred Treasures is an attack agent to collect even more experience points (EXP). How does the new promotion system change the progress in the game?

Players can make their favorite characters even stronger and they talk about their personal preferences.

Can you get in detail about user interface improvements, changes to controls and other quality improvements? Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate ?

We focused on two areas: improving the functionality and improvement of areas that were susceptible to faulty controls. Obvious changes make it easier to find the desired characters in the formation screen (character selection) and improve the appearance. For more detailed areas, we have adapted the symbol size of the card during the fight.

Can players look forward to additional content, such as new challenges or new weapons and armor or anything else in this direction?

In terms of content, these are characters, history (fighting), new weapons, new sacred treasures, new materials (to strengthen weapons), new modes (infinity mode, challenge mode). Otherwise there are additional elements that are directly related to the game, eg. B. additional skills.

Will the game Xbox One X-specific improvements and PS4 Pro enhancements offer? Are 4k / 60fps on the cards?

Xbox One X and PS4 Pro versions are 4K compatible and the frame rate is 60 fps, just like the basic game.

For both the Xbox One and the PS4, it is a full HD resolution and the standard frame rate is 60 fps.

How is the game running on the original Xbox One and PS4, in terms of frame rate and resolution?

Both for the Xbox One as well as for the PS4 it is a full HD resolution and the standard frame rate is 60 fps.

Can you please check the resolution and fps in docked and non-docked mode on the Nintendo Switch?

The switch version in docked mode is in Full HD and the base frame rate is 30 fps. In handheld mode, the resolution is 1280 × 720 and the standard frame rate 30 FPS.

For the PS5, an SSD was confirmed. How can you improve the game performance from the point of view of development in the future?

As it has already run, the currently known concept of the store will disappear almost or completely. Of course, this is a great improvement in comfort and we hope for an unprecedented gaming experience that is possible by immediate scene change.

The PS5 will have a Zen 2 processor, which represents a big jump over the CPUs of the PS4 and Xbox One. How will you help you with the development of the future in the development of games of the future?

Through the dramatic improvement of the processing speed and the amount that can be processed, we expect more advanced Ki-and larger control options as well as various advanced and / or high-speed simulations. Although this can temporarily challenge the development, we hope that the efficiency of development or automation increases so that we can concentrate more on details and content. ****

I do not believe that the downward compatibility will lead directly to future opportunities for our previous library.

Downward compatibility is a large feature of PS5. How will your previous library help to evolve and grow?

I do not believe that the downward compatibility will lead directly to future opportunities for our previous library. I think the downward compatibility is an advantage for the first start of the PS5 and extends the life of the PS4 hardware.
